Complications of Mandibular Fractures

2020
Abstract The evolution of mandibular fracture complications – infection, delayed union, malunion, nonunion, malocclusion, TMJ disorders, paresthesia, etc. – along with causes – the injury itself, inadequate or inappropriate treatment, patient compromise, misadventure, etc. – are described. Contemporary management is outlined with a series of illustrative examples. An underlying theme is that the treatment of failed rigid fixation, the standard of care today, is a bigger plate and more screws.
