Review of Solar Powered Organic Rankine Cycle for Indian Conditions

India is located in the tropic region and is a country blessed with solar abundance. Considering the recent technological advances, country needs substantial amount of energy to grow. One of the potential technology to utilize the energy is through solar powered Organic Rankin Cycle (ORC) which efficiently converts low grade energy to high grade energy. Looking forward to the scopes of using renewable energy, in this paper review of solar thermal technologies and applications with respect to organic Rankine cycle is presented. Review is done with reference to the capacities of ORC system, types of fluids and types of solar collectors. Scope of application of solar powered ORC technology is discussed for Indian scenario and towards the end, future prospects of solar technology for ORC is discussed and presented.
