Sustainability and survivability in manufacturing sector

Abstract Sustainable manufacturing is a self-evolving methodology. It has relevance in different segments like economics, environment, and society. There are many challenges encountered by manufacturing sector where the concept of sustainability is required. In this chapter, a conclusive investigation is made on sustainability idea, tools, techniques of its implementation, and policies required to implement it in manufacturing. Many industries are implementing policies for reducing the carbon emission for preserving the natural habitat. Various technology upgrades are being implemented in the industries in order to minimize negative impact of industrialization on ecological system. Application of strategic sustainable processes for development is required to be in place. In recent years, many decisions are taken to improve the industrial facilities in various segments such as operational, planning, production, and supply chain management. The purpose of this corrective but important step is to innovate and reinvent the manufacturing sector without compromising the sustainability of environment.
