mHealth: Cognitive Telerehabilitation of Patients with Acquired Brain Damage

2014
In this paper, we present an eHealth platformcalled mHealth that involves a professional methodology for cognitive rehabilitation of patients with acquired brain damage. mHealth provides patients with Cerebral Vascular Accident (CVA) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) a system for training and contacting with professionals responsible for their rehabilitation without either patients or professionals having to leave home. The platform has a custom-tracking system that allows videoconferencing. With mHealth, health professionals can carry out common clinical assessments and monitor neurocognitive exercises made by patients. Also, with mHealth, patients can consult and resolve issues relating to self-training and/or technical issues by sending voice messages or during a videoconference. The platform has been designed with requirements defined by doctors and engineers from Virgen del Rocio University Hospital and Seville District. Preliminary results of the pilot are presented.
