Implicações Socioeconômicas e Técnico-Sanitárias da Lavoura de Tabaco na Região de Santa Cruz do Sul, RS, Brasil

2012
The manner of productivity in the tobacco plantations practiced for many decades in the tobacco agriculture in the region of the Valley of Rio Pardo. Rio Grande do Sul, has brought up suspects about the environmental and personal maleficients because of the agrochemical/ artificial pattern put into practice during consecutive harvests. Although this represents selling security to the family units, the intergrating system adopted revives the economic and technical dependence. Knowing this, it was perceived the necessity to study the destructive impacts of this plantation in the ecosystem and human health in three (3) municipalities of the region, confluent with the hydrographic basin of the Rio Pardinho. In this text we hope to bring hack the discussion that began in the final relatory of the research denominated TOBACCO GROWING AND ECOSYSTEM EFFECTS. By this, we can deepen the question about the social/economic aspects of the many agronomic and cattle breeding activities developed by the tobacco farmers who helped to establish the corpus of the investigative analysis and where the methodological procedures included the realization of a total of one hundred and forty seven (147) interviews which took place through the use of a questionnaire. The technological form and social/ economic link of the production of tobacco has caused environmental problems, the farmers’ unpreparedness in relation to the manipulation of toxical products and the absence of a satisfactory and necessary income to better qualify the life of the families. Even so, tobacco growing continues to be the principal (in some cases, the only) financial source created at the family productive units in a region with an area of up to twenty-five (25) acres.
