Phase structure and properties of polymethyl methacrylate-polycarbonate mixtures☆

1985
Abstract Special features of the phase structure in PMMA-polycarbonate mixtures were studied according to composition and molar mass of PMMA. It was shown by electron-microscopy that the mixture is two-phase in the range of 0·5–99·5 wt.% polycarbonate, phase inversion taking place with 50–70 wt.% polycarbonate. When the mixture contained over 30 wt.% polycarbonate, transition occurred from the droplet dispersion to band, or layer structure, which resulted in the appearance of pearly lustre. Properties of the mixture are determined both by phase structure and structural disintegration of the polycarbonate phase in the mixture.
