DESIGN OF PRESTRESSED CONCRETE BOX GIRDER BRIDGE DECKS CONSTRUCTED BY THE CANTILEVER METHOD

1974
In this problem which required a computerized process which could handle the analysis and design of prestressed concrete box girder bridges, it was found that the economic procedure was to base the calculation of longitudinal stress resultants on continuous beam type calculations, and to amplify these for transverse distributions by means of distribution coefficients obtained in this case by grillage analogy. The system of programs are inter-related by virtue of the creation of common files and it is possible to access the system at many points depending on the state of the design. Details are given of the conversion of the box girder into grillage and of the computer analysis.
