A defect-free strip surface, excellent flatness and homogeneous surface topography are important prerequisites for aluminium strips from which offset printing plates are to be made. An essential quality criterion for perfect printing is the flatness of the printing plate, since the plate can only contact the printing cylinder all over its surface if it is flat. Besides, the automatic feeding of printing plates from cassettes to the printing roll also demands a flat plate geometry if transport problems are to be avoided. Other demands for flatness result from flat-bed offset printing and copying machines.
