Web Based Training System for Education at School of Health Sciences

The School of Health Sciences, Kyushu University was reorganized in 2002 as a department in the School of Medicine with three courses, Nursing, Radiological Science and Medical Technology. We educated students in various fields concerning medicine, and promoted an information-oriented education at our school. We decided to use a WBT (Web Based Training) system as the infrastructure for education with the beginning of the new term of 2003. For this purpose, we have adopted the WebCT (Web Course Tools) software for WBT, which was developed at the University of British Columbia, Canada in 1995 and has been widely used by over ten million students and in over 80 countries. We are planning to offer twelve courses in the health sciences by using WebCT. We are introducing here, two accomplished courses, titled "Radiation Physics in Medicine" and "Video-on-Demand Practice for Learning Basic Nursing Skills". These courses were used in the lectures and the questionnaires were performed on the students for evaluating these courses. The results of questionnaires suggest that almost all students prefer a WBT-style education and hope more courses will be offered by
