Pathology of experimental Newcastle disease in broilers and effect of herbal medication

2010
Effect of herbal medication on pathology of induced Newcastle disease in broilers was studied. One day old, one hundred and twenty broiler chicks were divided in to four groups comprising 30 chicks each. The two groups were vaccinated against Newcastle disease, while rest two were kept unvaccinated, which were subsequently infected with Newcastle disease virus (NDV) with 0.2 ml 100 EID50 on 23rd day. The herbal medication was administered in two groups (one vaccinated and one unvaccinated) @ 120 ml /1000 birds daily from first day to the end of experiment through water. The clinical signs were recorded and gross pathological changes were noted at necropsy after death or after sacrifice of six birds from each group. The gross and histopathological lesions were observed in both the infected groups while no pathological changes were seen in non infected groups. The herbal medication has little effect in combating the infection.
