Teen Programs in Fremont, California

1997
Two teen programs offered by the Teen Division of the Recreation Services Division, City of Fremont, California are described. The Youth Services Corps was established in 1965. The Corps offers teens a chance to blend work projects and recreational activities over 30 summer workdays and culminating three night/two day reward trip to Disneyland. The program gives teens a chance to learn job skills and socialize with peers through positive community service. Youth Today is a newspaper by and for teens, and includes articles on issues that affect all Fremont residents, versus specific school coverage. The newspaper is published three times per year. The overall journalism program also includes publication of Katzenjammer, a literary magazine published in September by students who participate in a six-week summer creative writing class.
