Study of. omega. omega. systems produced in 38 GeV/ c. pi. sup minus p collisions

1989
The {pi}{sup {minus}}{ital p}{r arrow}{omega}{omega}{ital n} reaction has been studied for the first time at the 70 GeV IHEP accelerator. The six photons from the decay of the two {omega} mesons were detected in GAMS-2000, a hodoscope multi-photon spectrometer. Two resonances decaying into {omega}{omega},{ital X}(1640) and {ital X}(1960), have been observed. Their quantum numbers are {ital J}{sup {ital PC}}=2{sup ++}, {ital I}{sup {ital G}}=0{sup +}. The reaction is dominated by the one-pion exchange mechanism. The production cross sections {sigma}{center dot}BR ({ital X}{r arrow}{omega}{omega}) are 0.65{plus minus}0.15 {mu}b and 1.0{plus minus}0.2 {mu}b, respectively.
