Endometriosis is a chronic estrogen-dependent gynecological disease characterized by the presence of endometrial tissue (stroma and/or glands) outside the uterine cavity, which induces a chronic, inflammatory reaction. Most commonly this involves ovaries and fallopian tubes, and rarely endometrial tissue may spread beyond pelvic organs.
