Distribution of the water-soluble and water-insoluble pentosan in F2 plant kernels in wheat cross Zhengzhou 9405/ Wanmai 19.

The purpose was to provide a reference for pentosans in wheat quality improvement.The random population of F2 generation were selected as materials to test the water soluble pentosan(WSP) and water-insoluble pentosan(WIP) contents with grain whole-mills of 335 single plants in a wheat cross "Zhengmai 9405/Wanmai19" with Orcinol-hydrochloric acid method.The results showed that the WSP and WIP contents in parents Zhengmai 9405 and Wanmai 19 were 1.25%and 0.65%,6.25% and 8.13%,respectively.The mean of WSP and WIP contents with grains whole-mills in the population of F2 generation were 1.07% and 5.97%.Water soluble pentosan contents of 6 single plants were over 1.7% and WSP contents of 2 single plants were less than 0.65%.Water insoluble pentosan contents of 3 single plants were over 8.50% and WIP contents of 5 single plants were less than 3.50%.Therefore,the breeding materials of high or low WSP and WIP contents could be selected in the population of early generations of wheat cross which had the parents with various WSP and WIP contents.
