FIELD-INDUCED PHASE TRANSITIONS IN Ba(Zr,Ti)O_3 CERAMICS

2006
The nature of field-induced transition in Ba(Zr_(0.2)Ti_(0.8))O_3(BZT) ceramics is studied.BZT ceramics were chosen because the ferroelectric transition temperature is very near to the room temperature. The BZT ceramics is found to exhibit diffuse phase transition behaviors. The dielectric constant is decreased with increasing the dc bias field, indicating a field-induced phase transition. The dc bias field has a strong effect on the position of the dielectric peak and affects the magnitude of the dielectric properties over a rather wide temperature range. The dc bias field dependence of the temperature of the dielectric peak follows the ΔT_m~E~(2/3) relation, suggesting the ceramics undergo a second-order transition-like behavior.
