The article presents the scheme of functioning of the individual consciousness and its components. It is shown, however, that we must distinguish between individual and social forms of consciousness. The properties of individual and public consciousness and their empirical specifications are described. The scheme of formation of one of the forms of individual consciousness world-consciousness and, in more detail, the most important component the picture of the world. It is shown, in turn, that the crucial point of the process of formation of the «picture of the world» is the procedure for classification of incoming information. Describes a mathematical model of the process of classification.
