One of the most efficient components to ensure the epidemiological safety of the healthcare settings is the technology of risk management. As a rule, we use incidence for estimating healthcare-associated infections (HAIs), i.e., we evaluate the undesirable outcome. However, intervention before the development of the epidemic process related to HAIs is more perspective when it is based on an assessment of the potential risks and implemented efficient measures. The article discusses conceptual approaches to risk management of HAIs and assessment of this risk, the key components of risk management, and prospects of its implementation in the prevention of HAIs.
