Accumulation of dehydrin transcripts and dehydrins in wheat seeds during the desiccation phase

2001
Desiccation phase, which occurs during seed development, is not very well documented in terms of synthesized proteins and their possible roles for the end use quality of wheat. Among these proteins, dehydrins have been the most commonly observed. Their accumulation starts with the beginning of desiccation phase and ends when the seed germinates. Throughout this stage, cell embryos develop a high capacity to survive under dehydration condition. It is the reason why, in a preliminary study, we focused on the identification of the main proteins induced by a water stress. In this work, we present data obtained using cDNA encoding dehydrins to follow the accumulation of transcripts during seed development using RT-PCR technique as well as the accumulation of dehydrins by western analysis.
