Apport de la réalité virtuelle concernant les mises en situation en réadaptation post-AVC dans les centres de réadaptation

2018
A stroke is a common disorder requiring immediate, intensive and multidisciplinary medical attention. Occupational therapy plays a major role in post-stroke rehabilitation centres, particularly through the use of realistic simulations. These allow patients to prepare for their return to the domestic environment once they have regained optimal autonomy and/or independence. Immersive and interactive virtual reality (VR) is an innovative rehabilitation tool that is particularly effective due to the possibility for creating virtual envi-ronments in which to carry out controlled simulations. However, studies have shown that there are several limitations to the implementation of immersive and interactive virtual reality. While it certainly enhances sessions and encour-ages full recovery, the quality of the software greatly impacts the patient’s per-formance during treatment. Additionally, the available software packages offer only a small range of virtual activities concerning everyday tasks. A lack of com-parative studies regarding virtual simulations versus real life situations makes it difficult to effectively ascertain the value of using immersive and interactive VR in rehabilitation centres. At first glance, a major disadvantage of the virtual environment is the impact of the graphics quality on the simulated exercises
