The study of relationship between EEG and cognitive ability in aged people in community

2008
Objective To explore the characteristics of EEG of aged people in community and its relationship with cognitive ability. Methods A total of 542 eligible people who were aged more than sixty and willing to participate in the study were investigated by EEG,cognitive and questionnaire. Results EEG powers were not significantly different among the age groups (P0.05),the power of slow waves was negatively correlated with MMSE score (P0.05),especially θ wave, and was elevated in mild cognitive impairment (MCI) population (P0.05).Conclusions EEG doesn′t change necessarily with aging. The elevation of slow wave power may be related to the MMSE decline and MCI.
