Allergy and Immunity in Leprosy

1976
Leprosy (recently also called hanseniasis) is a chronic disease caused by Mycobacterium leprae, infectious in some cases, primarily affecting peripheral nerves and secondarily affecting skin and certain other tissues. Progress in the study of human leprosy has brought into prominence the importance of allergo-immunological processes in the development and course of the disease.
