Beautifying the city and imrpoving the streets with building permits: Lyons 1580-1770

The consulate had at Lyons during the modern period a constant action to improve the streets. A very efficient tool used to achieve this scope was the building permits which allowed for the widening of the streets and the respect of compulsory by-law for the facades. In consequence, the trafic and the beauty of the city were considerably improved.
