Summary Surgical removal of the bursa of Fabricius in chicks at the age of 24 hours lowers their immunohumoral reactivity to spirochetes. Later removal of the bursa, at the 35th day, does not exert such an effect. Removal of the bursa increases the susceptibility of chicks to spirochetosis.
