Rapid Prototyping of ADAS and ITS Applications on the Example of a Vision-based Vehicle Tracking System

2012
Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADASs) promise to provide a significant contribution to the increase of road safety, driving comfort, and reduced emissions. Despite these advantages and the current trends for introducing such systems into volume vehicle models, the design process of ADAS as well as (intelligent Transportation System (ITS) applications is still a time-consuming process. In this paper, an innovative design methodology is presented which exploits state-of-the-art software tools in order to accelerate the prototyping, the system design, and the parameterization. The benefits of this methodology are demonstrated on the example of a camera-based vehicle tracking system. In particular, it is shown how this approach facilitates the rapid comparison of different probabilistic tracking algorithms.
