Substance use patterns are the cause of serious public health problems. It has been noticed in keen that from the past 8 to 10 years, the use of drugs has highly increased. Also, it has been reported that Punjab is ranked on the top most for drug marketing amongst all the states of India. The people start consuming drugs due to peer pressure, depression, crisis, craze to taste the drugs and the causes are many more. The most common age group involved in substance use disorder was of adolescents. This has led to decline in skills and hard work of the youth leading to inappropriate development of the nation. Thus, knowledge to adolescents can lead to a lot more improvement in preventing drug addiction. Therefore, educating them regarding substance use is relevant as it can lead to stronger and healthy youth with healthy mind for better nation. A pre-experimental “single-group pre-test–post-test design” was adopted in the study. This study includes a quasi-experimental study to assess the effectiveness of structured teaching programme on knowledge regarding substance use disorder among adolescents studying in selected senior secondary schools of Jalandhar, Punjab, 2019. The objectives of the study are to assess the pre-test knowledge regarding substance use disorder among adolescents; to assess post-test knowledge regarding substance use disorder among adolescents; to compare and analyse the pre-test score and post-test score knowledge regarding substance use disorder among adolescents; to find out the co-relation between the pre-test and post-test knowledge regarding substance use disorder among adolescents; and to find out the association of knowledge and practice regarding substance use disorder among adolescents with socio-demographic variable s . A quantitative research approach and quasi-experimental research design were used and the research setting was in selected senior secondary schools of Jalandhar. This study can also be conducted as a comparative study among the rural and urban adolescents studying in senior secondary schools. It can also be done as a descriptive study to assess the knowledge and attitude of adolescents regarding substance use disorder.
