A compound of the formula I: ** Formula ** X R1 S (O) m Ar N R2 O () (R n 5) p R3 R4 or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt, an individual optical isomer, a racemic or non-racemic mixture thereof, in which: m is a number from 0 to 2: n is a number from 1 to 3; p is a number from 0 to 3; Ar is optionally substituted aryl or optionally substituted heteroaryl; X is -C (O) - or -CRaRb-, in which: Ra is hydrogen or C1-6 alkyl; and Rb is hydrogen, C1-6 alkyl or hydroxy; R1 and R2 independently of each other are: hydrogen; C1-6 alkyl; C1-6 alkoxy-C1-6 alkyl; hydroxyC 1-6 alkyl; -CH2-C (O) -OCH3; -CH2-C (O) -NH-CH3; or cyano-C1-6 alkyl; or one of R1 and R2 is hydrogen or C1-6 alkyl and the other is: a five or six link heteroaryl or heterocyclyl containing one or two nitrogen atoms and which is optionally substituted by hydroxyl; cyano-C1-6 alkyl; C3-8 cycloalkyl; aryl-C 1-6 alkyl; or - (CH2) r-Y-Rh, in which: Y is -C (O) - or -SO2-; r is the number 0, 1 or 2; and Rh is: C1-6 alkyl; C3-8 cycloalkyl; C1-6 alkoxy; cyano-C1-6 alkyl; halo C1-6 alkyl; hydroxy; Not me; NH-C1-6 alkylamino; N, N-di- (C1-6 alkyl) -amino; hydroxyC 1-6 alkyl, whose hydroxy group may be acetylated; aryl; aryl-C 1-6 alkyl; or aryl-C 1-6 alkyloxy-C 1-6 alkyl; or R1 and R2 together with the nitrogen atom to which they are attached can form a ring of three to seven links optionally containing an additional heteroatom, chosen from N, O and S and which is optionally substituted by hydroxyl; or R1 and R2 together with the nitrogen atom to which they are attached can form a guanidinyl group or an amidinyl group; R3 and R4 independently of each other are hydrogen or C1-6 alkyl; or one of R3 and R4 together with one of R1 and R2 and the atoms to which they are attached can form a ring of five or six links; or R3 and R4, together, can form = NRc in which Rc is hydrogen or C1-6 alkyl; and each R5 regardless of its occurrence is halogen, C1-6 alkyl, halo- C1-6 alkyl, hetero-C1-6 alkyl, cyano, -SO2Rd, -C (= O) -NReRf, -SRd, -C ( = O) -Rg, in which each of Rd, Re and Rf irrespective of its occurrence is hydrogen or C1-6 alkyl and Rg is hydrogen, C1-6 alkyl, hydroxy or C1-6 alkoxy.
