Estimation Annual Exposure of Radiation Dose inside Hospitals and Health Centres of Kurdistan Region and its Impact on Health of Workers and Patients

2016
Present research includes the measurements of an internal background radiation exposure doses inside the thirty two of hospitals and health centres of Iraqi Kurdistan. The effects of annual exposure dose on the worker’s and patient’s health as well have been estimated. Survey radiation dosimeters (Inspector Ext) used to measure internal radiation exposure dose. Geological formation, building materials, ventilation rate, and the time of exposure impacted on the rate of annual exposure doses. Maximum (2520±23 µSv) and minimum (612±21.1µSv) values of annual exposure dose found inside hospitals of Hevi  Pediatrics  Teaching (in Duhok governorate) and Hewa Oncological Hospital (in Sulaymaniyah  governorate) , respectively.  Annual exposure dose affected on the health of worker more than the patients, this is due to the time of exposure. The health implications of the results obtained were discussed, and combined with the building materials of the hospitals and health centres.
