Theseguidelines are basedon utilityfieldexperiences,resultsof researchlaboratory testsandmanufacturers'recommendations.Discussedare interchangeability with porcelainand glassinsulators, applicationin contaminatedenvironments, material ageing,insulatoricing,theuse ofgrease,resistance to vandalism, temperatureextremes,and the needfor gradingrings. Clarification is providedon the mechanicalratingof compositeinsulatorsbecause thereisnotyetgeneralagreementbyvariousindustry groups.
