Current trends in e-learning

2011
This paper is focused on the latest trends in e-learning. In recent years terminology changed and from "technology-supported learning, distance learning and distance education", learning drifted to "online learning and web-based training" and sooner or later to "e-learning". Today, e-learning allows us to share and manage knowledge and skills of the professionals who work in our colleges and universities, and to get the right information to the right people, when and how they need it. Computer and Internet technologies are more integrated with professional, academic, and personal lives. These technologies are opening ways for courses, seminars, discussion forums and other approaches to learning to be delivered online with innovative ways to interact with instructors and other students. This paper provides an overview of current applications and research trends in the field of e-learning. There are various technologies that can be used to support learning. They range from web-based training (WBT) to tangible e-learning, mobile learning, virtual and mixed realities, and more. This paper also discusses the impact of e learning on education pattern.
