entitled: The Influence of Stress, School Adaptation, Offline and Cyber Bullying Victimization on Suicide of Adolescents

2016
Suicide is the main cause of death among adolescents in South Korea as well as in worldwide. Researchers should consider various environmental variables as well as personal variables to better understand the suicide of youth. The aim of this study was to explore predictors of suicidal ideation in adolescents of South Korea, with a particular focus on the independent impact of cyberbullying victimization. This study conducted a binary logistic regression using 4461 panel data from the National Youth Policy Institute (NYPI). Gender, school record, perceived stress, school adaptation, offline bullying victimization, and cyberbullying were designated as independent variables. The results of this study are as follows. Females reported more suicidal ideation than males. Better school record and school adaptation were related to fewer suicidal ideation. On the other hand, greater perceived stress and both cyber and offline bullying victimization were associated with increased suicidal ideation. This study supports the idea that researchers should pay attention to cyberbullying victimization as well as offline bullying victimization to better understand teenage suicide, and parents, schools, and community should reinforce the message that cyberbullying is wrong and illegal.
