Investigation of Ti/B4C coatings microstructure obtained by cold gas-dynamic spraying and selective laser melting

2020
This paper was studied the microstructure of a metal-ceramic coating obtained by sequential application of cold gas-dynamic sputtering and laser melting. It is shown that under certain parameters of cold spray, it is possible to obtain a titanium coating with evenly distributed boron carbide particles. The laser treatment modes used lead to the decomposition of boron carbide, mixing with the titanium matrix, and the formation of borides and titanium carbides. The initial high content of boron carbide in ceramics (35% by weight) leads to a lack of free titanium on the surface of the coating and between the molten layer and the cold spray coating.
