Reserpine derivatives with specific hypotensive or sedative activity.

RECENTLY it has been reported, by Ciba Laboratories1,2, that two reserpine analogues show more specific effects than reserpine. Methyl-18-O(3-NN-dimethylaminobenzoyl)reserpate (or SU 5171) exhibits sedative activity, while carbethoxysyringoyl-methylreserpate (syrosingopine or SU 3118) is effective in decreasing blood tension (see formulae).
