Preparation of ZnO nanorod by hydrothermal method and its photocatalytic property

Using Zn(acac)2·H2O as single-source precursors,ZnO nanorods were prepared at 140℃ by hydrothermal method.The products were characterized by XRD,SEM and TEM.The UV absorbing properties were detected by the UV spectrophotometer.The results showed that ZnO nanorods have a exceedingly strong absorption at 200-400nm wavelength and also a relatively strong absorption at visible region.Photodegradation of the acid red 4B dye in aqueous solution was investigated by using ZnO nanorods as photocatalyst.The effects of the light source and the waster water concentration on the photocatalytic efficiency of ZnO nanorods were studied.The results showed that after 180 minutes solar illumination,the degradation rate of the acid red 4B dye was close to 100%.
