560 cases of ICU-acquired pneumonia developing in several hospitals from this country during a one-year period were evaluated. The most commonly used diagnostic techniques were blood and sputum culture. In only one third the telescoped catheter was used. A microbiological diagnosis was achieved in 79.2%, although the diagnosis was considered as certain in 33% and probable in 46.2%
