Configuración y transformaciones del orden social en territorios disputados: Trayectoria de dos barrios periféricos de Medellín (1985-2013).

2013
The social orders that regulate life and behaviors of a given society are not homogeneous, even though they emerge within a territory that shares the same nationality and defines itself in the same way. In different countries there are broad zones, where the state has not been able to establish full control, that have social orders that differ from the national project that the state has and from the social order that it seeks to enforce in its territory. This research aims to show the configuration and changes of the social orders taking place in territories under the dispute of several armed actors and with fluid institutional presence. Specifically, this document constructs the path of two marginal neighborhoods in the city of Medellin using James Mahoney's method of sequence elaboration. The hypothesis in this research is that, even though the two cases studied shared the same context, the path has been different due to the actors' agency and their relationships. The reconstruction of these two paths shows the obstacles for spreading democracy among the whole territory when violent social orders have been established.
