EXPRESSWAY INCIDENT DETECTION SYSTEM AND ALGORITHMS

Expressway incidents are non-recurrent and random events that disrupt the normal traffic and create congestion. Quick and reliable incidents detection is essential to reduce traffic delays and ensure road safety. This paper analyses the composition of expressway incident detection system and presents a comprehensive evaluation on existing expressway automated incident detection (AID) algorithms. In particularly, the latest intelligent techniques applied in AID are introduced in detail. Moreover, the trend of development of AID algorithms is also presented in this paper.
