Paediatric day case unit - four years' experience

Objective : To evaluate the performance of the Paediatric Day Case Unit over a period of 4 years, 1989-1993. Method : Day case unit register and individual case notes where necessary were scanned for relevant information. Results : Annual admissions on average were 572, drawn from general and various subspecialities of paediatrics. There were very few instances where a day case had to be transferred to a general ward for prolonged observation. Conclusion :. The Day Case Unit is well suited for the paediatric population. It is cost-effective and should be utilized to the full by more hospitals within our health system.
