An optimal design of an AFPMSM using analytical approach and particle swarm optimization

In this paper, a proposed analytical model is introduced for acceptable optimization of an axial flux permanent magnet (AFPM) machines. Nowadays the finite-element model is one of the most powerful tool to analysis the electrical machine. However, sometimes this method can be very time-consuming for further optimization. Therefore, in this paper, a hybrid analytical model based on sub-domain algorithm and particle swarm optimization is developed. In comparison with magnetic field distribution, cogging torque, back electromotive force and other parameters with FE model, it is convenient to conclude whether sub-domain analytical model agrees with FE analysis in results well for the AFPM proposed in this paper.
