FAKTOR-FAKTOR YANG BERHUBUNGAN DENGAN TERJADINYA VARISES VENA TUNGKAI BAWAH PADA WANITA USIA PRODUKTIF

2012
Background : Varicose veins (VV) of lower extremity is superficial leg veins which are dilated and winding with abnormal valve function. Lower extremity VV may cause cosmetic problems that interfere with the appearance and decreased work productivity. Aim : The study aims to investigate the factors associated with the occurrence of lower extremity VV in women of productive age. Method : The study is an analytic observational using case control study design. The samples were taken with consecutive sampling. Subjects were women of productive age, comprising of 30 women with lower extremity VV (case) and 30 women without lower extremity VV (control). The data collected is characteristic of subjects and related factors to lower extremity VV. Data analysis were performed using SPSS Windows Ver 17.0. Results : The incidence of lower extremity VV in subjects with a family history was higher than in subjects with no family history (OR = 50,1; 95% CI=6,0 to 420,4). The occurrence of lower extremity VV was higher in subjects with a Body Mass Index (BMI)> 23 than subjects with BMI ≤ 23 (OR=8,5; 95% CI= 2,4 to 30,5). The incidence of lower extremity VV in the subject with a history of prolonged standing was higher than subjects with no history of prolonged standing (OR=36,0; 95% CI = 8,1 to 159,9). While the variables of age (OR = 1,6), multiparity pregnancy (OR = 4,3), and hormonal contraception (OR = 1,9) could not yet be concluded as a risk factor. Conclusion : Factors associated with the occurrence of lower extremities VV were a family history, overweight/obesity, and prolonged standing Keywords : Lower extremity varicose veins, family history, overweight/obesity, prolonged standing.
