Electronic absorption spectrum of 4-methylindole

Abstract The near u.v. absorption spectrum of 4-methylindole has been recorded. The observed spectrum lying in the region λ 2960-2600 A has been identified as a π* ← π transition, analogous to the λ 2850 A system of indole. A vibrational analysis has been proposed for the band system.
