End-to-end versus end-to-side esophagogastrostomy after esophageal cancer resection: a prospective randomized study.

FromMay2005toSeptember2007,128patients(64ineachgroup)wererandomizedbetweenETEandETSanastomosisafteresophagectomyforcancer with gastric tube reconstruction. Routine contrast swallow studies andendoscopy were performed. Anastomotic stricture within 1 year, requiringdilatation, was the primary endpoint. Secondary endpoints were anastomoticleak rate and mortality.
