Assessment of Errors in Determining the TNT Equivalency of Air Explosions

2020
The article assesses the impact of the main significant external factors in determining the TNT equivalency of air explosions. The effects of errors in measuring the distance to the epicenter and pressure on the front of the air shock wave (ASW) on the TNT equivalency value calculated by the Sadowski empirical is considered. The errors in determining the TNT equivalency arising from the wind at the time of the explosion are also considered. It is shown that even minor errors in the measurements or conditions in the experimental field can significantly affect the estimated TNT equivalency.
