Influence of microstructure on plasticity of VT1-00 alloy

1985
The superplasticity of technically pure titanium occurs in the interval between the transformation temperatures [1-3]. Superplasticity is observed in metals with relatively coarse grain size; according to [I], the grain diameter must be d = 18 ~m, while according to [2], it is d = 40 ~m. Such results are in contradiction with [4, 5] since, according to these workers, superplasticity is shown by titanium with grain diameter less than 10-15 um. It must be mentioned that there are no reports of any studies of superplasticity in pure titanium over a wide range of temperatures and deformation rates.
