A study on the modification of Cosh-Hamming window for nonrecursive filter design

2017
In this study, a new window family is proposed in order to be able to design better nonrecursive digital filters. This window family is obtained by adding a new independent parameter to the window known as Cosh-Hamming in literature. First of all, the effects of adjustable independent parameters of proposed window on digital filtering characteristic is examined for a fixed filter length (N=51) in terms of minimum stopband attenuation and transition bandwidth parameters. After that, to compare the performance of the proposed window in filter application with the well-known windows in literature, a numerical comparison example is presented for filter length N = 51. The simulation results show that the filter designed by the proposed window can provide better minimum stopband attenuation for the parameters of fixed filter length and transition bandwidth. This means that by using the suitable parameters the proposed modified window can provide a better filtering characteristic compared to Kaiser, Dolph-Chebyshev, Cosh-Hamming, Cosh, and Exponential windows.
