Hyper Beamforming in Time Modulated Linear Arrays

2020
In this paper, a method of hyper beamforming (HBF) based on a time modulated array is proposed. With the time-modulation, the phase and amplitude of the hyper beam can be adjusted by designing the time sequences. A time modulated linear array (TMLA) of 12 arrays is given to verify the proposed method. The TMLA is divided into two subarrays, which are used to form the sum and difference beam respectively, so as to form the hyper beam. Simulation results show that the proposed method achieves lower sidelobe level and narrower beam-width than the traditional beam pattern with the same array aperture.
