The Effect of DDT on Sertoli Cells

2013
DDT,as an organochlorine pesticide,is widely used in agriculture. It was the estrogen receptor(ER)-mediated environmental estrogens. It has potential disrupting effects on endocrine and shows estrogen-like effects in organism. It can have a competitive binding with androgen receptor, inhibit androgen activity and interfere with the synthesis, secretion, metabolism and the combination of the endocrine in male organisms. Thus,it undermines the maintenance of the organism's stability and regulation, which may lead to a decline in both the number and the activity of sperms,an increase in male infertility and testicular or prostate cancer. Therefore, the threat to health caused by DDT residues, especially to people's reproductive system has caused great concern. On the basis of the recent years' study,DDT's interference with endocrine, its toxicity and toxicity mechanisms are reviewed.
