Surface Probing via Hydrogen Atom on Cu(410)

2020
Abstract In this study, we show that the vibrational frequency of H atom on Cu(410) surface is sensitive to minimal structural perturbations as low as 0.1A. We found that H atom distinguishes the relative displacement of Cu through the broadening/narrowing of the potential energy curve, which corresponds to the depression/ascension of surface atoms. This suggests the potential use of adsorbed hydrogen to probe fine structural features of metal surfaces.
