Fibrin monomers and thrombocyte aggregation in vivo

1971
To determine whether fibrin monomers in vivo can induce thrombocyte aggregation rabbits were given infusions of purified fibrin monomers and the thrombocyte count was observed. Another rabbit group was infused with heparin and epsilon-aminocapronacid and another with heparin and NaC1. 6 animals manifested bleeding in the lungs and 12 fibrinous microthrombosis in the kidneys. No difference in the thrombocyte count however was detected in the groups of laboratory animals. The study indicated that infusion of fibrin monomers or circulating fibrin monomer complexes (along with an anticoagulant) will not induce platelet aggregation.
