Nitration of Some 3,5-Disubstituted Pyridine N-Oxides.

3,5-Dichloropyridine N-oxide (I) reacts selectively with methylate to give the chloromethoxypyridine N-oxide (II) which is nitrated to yield the mononitro (III) and dinitro derivatives (IV).
