Reflections upon the Classroom Crisis of College English and a Proposal on the solutions

2013
This paper presents some reflections upon the classroom crisis of college English courses by analyzing students born after 1990 growing up in a"touch-screen online information"age, who are not satisfied with or even boycott the"limited oral information"given by their teachers in their classrooms, and take negative actions against the static "print knowledge"on their text books and the"following relationships between teacher and student".The writers also sum up the key causes and put up some solutions on the way out based on the theories of "effective teaching".Their proposal focuses on the task-based approach applied by students' autonomous learning, cooperative learning, inquiry learning and competitive learning. This study stresses the challenges to teachers and shows some reflective and creative thinking on teaching modes, classroom morphology,teacher-student relationship and assessment methods.Transformed into the writers believe that only when both teacher and students become co-build academic synergy, will the classroom crisis be transferred into new opportunities.
